Cowles Library is one of the 200 founding libraries of Knowledge Unlatched: “a collaborative initiative enabling open access books. Knowledge Unlatched is helping stakeholders to work together for a sustainable open future for specialist scholarly books. Our vision is a healthy market that includes free access for end users.”
“The current system for publishing scholarly books is not working for anyone. Monographs in the humanities and social sciences, in particular, are in crisis.
“Knowledge Unlatched is committed to changing this. We believe that by working together libraries can create a sustainable route to Open Access for scholarly books and secure long-term cost savings for their own institutions by sharing the costs of making HSS monographs available on a Creative Commons licence. Supporting Open Access through Knowledge Unlatched will not cost more than simply purchasing a more traditionally published title.”
